NEW PATIENTS

Our Approach to Children’s Dentistry

We understand that visiting the dentist can be intimidating for young patients, which is why our team is committed to creating a welcoming, fun, and comfortable environment for your child. Our experienced dental professionals are skilled in working with children, using gentle techniques and a friendly approach to put them at ease during their visits.

Friendly Faces, Families Welcome

From the moment you walk through our door, you’ll be greeted by a warm, friendly team who genuinely enjoy working with children. We welcome the whole family to appointments, and parents and siblings are always welcome to come along and stay in the room, so your child feels supported and comfortable right from the start.

What Happens at Your Child’s Check-Up

Every children’s check-up is gentle, unhurried, and easy to follow along with. Here’s what we do at each visit:

  • Check your child’s teeth and gums
  • Monitor how their teeth and jaw are growing
  • Look for any early signs of decay or plaque build-up
  • Clean their teeth using our gentle electric cleaning tool, which is very quiet and designed to keep little ones comfortable
  • Recommend coming back in six months to stay on track

Services We Provide

Our children’s dentistry services include regular check-ups and cleanings, dental sealants and fluoride treatments, tooth-coloured fillings, orthodontic evaluations and referrals, emergency dental care, and oral hygiene education and preventive care.

Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) Accepted

Our practice is pleased to accept the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS), a government-funded program that provides eligible children aged 2-17 with access to essential dental services.

The CDBS covers up to $1,158 of dental services per child over a two-year period, ensuring that your child receives the dental care they need without financial stress.

More About the CDBS

The CDBS covers a range of essential dental services for eligible children, including check-ups, cleans, X-rays, fillings, and extractions. It does not cover orthodontic treatment or any procedures carried out in a hospital.

Eligibility depends on your family’s circumstances, so the best way to find out if your child qualifies is to call our practice and our team will help you check. You can also read more detail on the Services Australia website.

Frequently Asked Questions

What age should my child first see the dentist?

We recommend bringing your child in for their first dental visit around the time their first tooth appears, or by their first birthday at the latest. Early visits help us keep an eye on healthy development and get your child comfortable with the dentist from the start.

What if my child is scared of the dentist?

That’s completely normal, and we’re happy to take things at your child’s pace. We work with you to create a low-pressure plan. That might mean the first appointment is just a visit to say hello, the next is sitting in the chair and having a play, and only once they’re ready do we have a look inside their mouth. There’s no rush.

When do adult teeth come in, and when do wisdom teeth appear?

Most children start losing their baby teeth and getting adult teeth from around age 6, with this process continuing until around age 12-13. Wisdom teeth usually appear much later, typically between the ages of 17 and 25.

Is fluoride toothpaste suitable for kids?

Yes, fluoride toothpaste is safe and recommended for children, though the amount used should be age-appropriate. Our team can talk you through the right amount for your child’s age at their next visit.

What entertainment do you have for kids at the practice?

We want your child to feel at ease before they even sit in the chair, so we have TVs, books, toys, and music to keep them entertained and comfortable while they wait and during their visit.
