School Holidays Are a Great Time to Catch Up on Dental Care

Here’s the catch: dental problems don’t always hurt in their early stages. Early decay, the first signs of gum trouble—these can be easy to miss if you’re just brushing and moving on with your day. Regular checkups can help identify these changes earlier, when treatment may be simpler and less involved.

It’s Not Just a Cavity Check

A routine visit covers more than most people realise. Your dentist looks at your teeth, your gums and the rest of your mouth, and a professional clean can remove plaque and tartar that brushing and flossing may leave behind.

There’s also a bigger-picture reason to keep these appointments. Your mouth isn’t separate from the rest of you. Looking after it is part of looking after your health generally, which is reason enough not to let visits drift too far apart.

Use the School Holidays

No school run. No homework battles. No packed lunches. The holidays are, frankly, one of the easier times to get the kids into the chair. And if a family trip is on the calendar, booking appointments before you go means you’re not leaving with that nagging “we probably should have” feeling.

Eligible children may also be able to use the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS), which covers part or all of the cost of certain basic dental services, such as checkups, X-rays and cleaning.

Not sure if your child qualifies? Check their CDBS eligibility and balance through your Medicare online account linked to myGov.
